Performance Report Cards (aka Website monitoring Dashboard Reports) provide live-feed reports of a monitored device or a group of devices. A  Dashboard Report can be accessed from outside of the Dotcom-Monitor service via a unique URL. A Dashboard Report provides a summary of the device(s), the current status of the device(s), as well as the historical statistics of the device(s) performance and uptime.

Security

Website Monitoring Report Cards unique URLs are secured by several means (discussed below), and unless specifically exposed by the service owner, are unavailable to the general public. In order to make Dashboard Reports accessible from outside of the Dotcom-Monitor service, the service owner must “enable” the Dashboard Report functionality.

Access

Once the web site monitoring Dashboard Report is enabled, it is assigned a global unique identifier (GUID), for example, “B5BB0BEEA67E47648F27B5F634EDD75C”. This randomized GUID makes it virtually impossible to find a report unless it is specifically shared, or published, where it can be viewed.

The front view of a Dashboard Performance Report Card is an easy-to-use overview of the status of all monitored devices. The Report Card shows the time when the Device was last monitored, Agent location that last performed a check and the status of the device. If a failure in the device is detected, the failure will be displayed in red at the top of the Dashboard Report.

Use of the Report Card

The report page self-refreshes every 30 seconds and can run constantly in the background if needed. The Report Card is often used as part of a dashboard by system operators and network administrators for monitoring the status of Internet infrastructure on one simple screen. Also, the Report Card is a convenient link for quickly checking the overall health of a monitored system via a mobile device and in case of an alert.

Detailed Reports for Devices are accessible in the Report Card by clicking on a listed device. It provides summary information about a specific device.

Report Cards can be configured to display the following items:

  • Uptime/Downtime charts and numbers
  • Device Response Time
  • Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly history.

Report Cards can be placed in a public area of a website, in order to demonstrate to end users that a website receives monitoring by an independent third party. Report Cards demonstrate the reliability of a website and the website’s service uptime and performance. As a result, end users are assured that the website is credible and reliable.

Usage note

Specifically for an independent Service Provider (ISP) the publicly viewable “Detailed Report” can be placed along with your Control Panel in order to show customers the actual website uptime as calculated by an independent third party monitoring service.

Configuration

Planned maintenance (such as server maintenance) can be excluded from report statistics by applying a schedule to that time period. As a result, the scheduled period of server maintenance will not affect stats and charts.

Auto-reload for all Report Cards is set to 3-minutes.

No filters are assigned to Report Cards by default. As a result, the statistic values between an Online Report and the statistical values displayed by a Report Card may differ.
