Differences in time measurement between ServerView and UserView tasks

There are  fundamental differences between the ServerView Monitoring and UserView Monitoring platforms, which can result in differences in the time values measured as well as the “response time” results.

These time value measurements are grounded in the differing purposes and uses of each platform.

The ServerView Monitoring platform is primarily used to measure the basic HTTP response time (see blue bar in figure below).

ServerView Monitoring also has a Full Page Download option, which measures both the basic HTTP response time and the additional time it takes to download all dependent files within the HTML, such us: Java Scripts, CSS’s, Images, Flash, ActiveX Objects, etc…resulting in a different time value measurement (see green bars in figure below).

UserView Monitoring takes the time value measurement two steps farther (see figure below, purple and orange bars)  by additionally including the load time of HTML and all elements, Script Processing, HTML DOM model building, Page Rendering and so on.

As you can see, the different processes behind each type of monitoring platform and option have an affect on both the duration of the monitoring, as well as the average time value measured, or “response time” results.
